This morning, after taking my daughter to school, I went to the bank ATM drive-thru. Unfortunately, I was behind a contractor who decided that he would tie up the drive-thru ATM for 15 minutes, depositing various stacks of cash, instead of driving around the corner to the drive-thru tellers waiting to help him. I was extremely relieved, as was the contractor behind me, when he stopped feeding cash into the machine and finally deposited a check; we watched his finale with anticipation, finally allowing us to do our two-minute transactions in the back-to-back ATMs that he so graciously had monopolized.
This month, as we celebrate the month of love, will you join with us at Construction Connection and spread a little love, which sometimes can just be shown in your actions or reactions. I confess, I rolled down my window to say something to this man, but then thought again and waited somewhat more patiently after I decided to find humor in it instead. There are some things you just have to wait out.
How many times have I heard in my life: love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. The goal? To fail less every day as we love more. I guess patiently waiting falls into that category, and I need to get the term “mental giants” out of my vocabulary.
Last month, I turned another year older. I’ve had a few more of life’s curve balls thrown at me; yet, with each passing year, I work on developing a conscious awareness of how I choose to react to people or situations. If I focus on how I can temper my overall reaction to people and circumstances, my stress levels will be greatly reduced and I will keep the joy a little longer each day.
We at Construction Connection are working daily to show the love to all of you in the industry. You can show love to us through positive feedback and sharing Construction Connection with others in our industry as the place, designed specifically for our industry, to go to build a better tomorrow.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Suzanne on behalf of Kent and the Construction Connection Team!
